The Mysterious Aviator

The story of Peter Moran, who picks up a bedraggled pedestrian one rainy night, discovering it's an old wartime comrade, Maurice Lenden. Lenden reveals he has crash-landed after a mission for Russia, involving espionage and treasonous acts. Moran, initially loyal to his country, becomes entangled in Lenden's story and faces moral dilemmas, as he and the mistress of Moran's estate become involved in helping Lenden. The narrative unfolds through Lenden's revelations, Moran's attempts to help, and a desperate race across France and into Fascist Italy, with Lenden ultimately seeking redemption.
