Lonely Road

Commander Malcolm Stevenson, a wealthy, middle-aged shipbuilder haunted by his past, who accidentally stumbles upon a conspiracy while driving home one night. He becomes entangled with a dance hostess, Mary "Mollie" Gordon, and is drawn into exposing a plot to sabotage the British General Election. The story is narrated in a fragmented style, with Stevenson's initial recollections of the past merging with the present events.
